The British Army will procure 72 Remote Controlled Howitzers (RCH 155) under a nearly £1 billion contract, enhancing artillery capabilities. This initiative is expected to support approximately 500 jobs across the UK, reinforcing the UK's defense industrial base and contributing to NATO's collective security.
The British Army's acquisition of 72 Remote Controlled Howitzers (RCH 155) is set to significantly enhance its artillery capabilities. This nearly £1 billion contract includes training and in-service support and is awarded to ARTEC GmbH, a joint venture of Rheinmetall and KNDS.
The systems will be produced using British steel from Sheffield Forgemasters, with manufacturing taking place at Rheinmetall's Telford facility and the BOXER chassis produced by KNDS in Stockport. Deliveries are anticipated to start in 2028, with the existing Archer artillery serving as an interim solution. The program aims to create 500 jobs and further solidifies UK-Germany defense cooperation, improving NATO interoperability on the eastern flank.
