British Army to Acquire 72 RCH 155 Howitzers Under €1.15 Billion Contract
The British Army will enhance its artillery capabilities with 72 RCH 155 howitzers under a €1.15 billion contract. This procurement replaces AS90 systems donated to Ukraine and aims for initial delivery by 2028, addressing warfighting capability gaps.

The British Army has secured a contract valued at nearly €1.15 billion (£1 billion) for 72 Remote Controlled Howitzers (RCH 155) to bolster its artillery. The RCH 155, developed by Rheinmetall and KNDS, will replace AS90 systems given to Ukraine in 2023, with initial deliveries expected in 2028.
The system operates with a crew of two and can hit targets up to 70 kilometers away while mounted on a BOXER chassis. Rheinmetall will produce key components in Telford, and KNDS UK will manufacture BOXER modules in Stockport. This procurement is part of the UK-Germany Trinity House Agreement to enhance defense collaboration and NATO interoperability, addressing potential gaps in the UK's military capabilities.
