British Royal Engineer Completes Placement with US Army Corps in Washington Aqueduct Tour

On January 30, 2026, Capt. Sam McAvoy of the Royal Engineers participated in an Army Leader Professional Development tour at the Washington Aqueduct's Dalecarlia Water Treatment Plant in Washington, D.C.
McAvoy is completing a nine-month industrial placement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District as part of his training through the Royal School of Military Engineering. The tour was led by Lt.
Col. Mark Pollak and included seven military officers. Trina Littlejohn guided the participants through the water treatment operation. McAvoy noted the west filter building as a highlight due to its historical significance and ongoing role in supplying drinking water.
