The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is upgrading over 300 km of roads in the Jaisalmer region of Rajasthan to improve connectivity along India's western borders. Key routes being enhanced include the 70-km Ramdevra-Nachna stretch, the 125-km Lundet-Pithewals Mor road, and the 110-km Ramgarh-Asutar road.
This initiative, part of Project Chetak, aligns with the operational needs of the Indian Army and aims to elevate road standards from Class 9 to National Highway standards. The upgrades will facilitate heavier military traffic and enhance access for local populations and tourists.
Ongoing projects are managed by BRO's Project Chetak based in Bikaner, which oversees 3,200 km of roads across Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. In the fiscal year 2024-25, BRO reported an expenditure of Rs 16,690 crore, with plans for Rs 17,900 crore in 2025-26, commissioning 356 infrastructure projects in two years.
