Bruce Power Achieves Record Cobalt-60 Harvest, Completes Unit 4 Defuel Milestone in 24 Days
Bruce Power has achieved its largest cobalt-60 harvest to date during the Unit 5 planned outage, bolstering the global supply for cancer treatment and medical sterilization. Additionally, the company completed the Unit 4 defuel milestone in just 24 days, setting a record for efficiency in CANDU reactor history. The ongoing Unit 3 Maintenance and Capital Refurbishment is expected to conclude in 2026.

Bruce Power completed the largest cobalt-60 harvest in its history during the Unit 5 planned outage, enhancing the global supply for cancer treatment, sterilization of medical equipment, and food safety. The outage for Unit 3 and its Maintenance and Capital Refurbishment (MCR) began in 2023 and is scheduled to return to service in 2026. Additionally, Bruce Power achieved the Unit 4 MCR outage defuel milestone in 24 days, marking the most efficient defuel process in CANDU reactor history.
