On December 8, Jeonbuk Buan County Governor Kwon Ik-hyeon announced plans to utilize an estimated 130 billion won in profit-sharing funds from renewable energy for a basic income project aimed at residents. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to secure a sustainable income structure, linking renewable energy with AI and K-culture.
Kwon outlined major achievements, including support for high school dinner costs, the construction of a sports center for the disabled, and the establishment of a rural hydrogen city. The proposed offshore wind power project is designed to return profits to the local community over the next 20 years.
If successful, it could lead to the implementation of a 'wind pension' model, providing approximately 250,000 won monthly per resident. However, challenges remain, including compensation for the fishing industry and community participation. Kwon emphasized the importance of leadership in navigating these issues.
