Bucharest Loses Heating for 75,000 Apartments Daily Due to Outdated Networks, Says Energy Minister
Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan stated that Bucharest loses the equivalent of daily heating for 75,000 apartments due to outdated heating networks. The technology at ELCEN is 50 years old and has suffered from a lack of investment over the past 35 years, leading to significant losses.
Ivan has prepared a national program for the modernization of district heating plants in collaboration with the World Bank. He discussed the potential merger between ELCEN and Termoenergetica with various mayors to ensure fair management of thermal energy production and distribution.
Ivan plans to meet with new general mayor Ciprian Ciucu to discuss ongoing issues. The National Energy Command, convened by Ivan, monitors the operation of the National Energy System and the National Natural Gas Transmission System.
