Bulgaria and U.S. Establish Joint Energy Project Team to Enhance Strategic Partnership
Bulgaria and the U.S. have established a joint Energy Project Team to enhance their strategic energy partnership, focusing on critical projects such as pumped-storage hydropower and liquefied natural gas supply, while excluding nuclear energy. The team will leverage existing collaborations, particularly with North Dakota, to address raw materials and infrastructure development. Discussions also included ongoing nuclear projects at the Kozloduy Power Plant and potential cooperation on small modular reactors.

Bulgaria's outgoing Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov met online with U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary Tommy Joyce to discuss strengthening the energy partnership between Bulgaria and the U.S. They agreed to form a joint expert group, the Energy Project Team, to focus on priority projects, excluding nuclear energy.
