Burnet City Council Delays Atmos Energy Rate Hike
Atmos Energy's proposed rate increase could raise natural gas bills by over 42% in Burnet, prompting local government action. The city council has postponed the effective date to review the legitimacy of the hike.

Atmos Energy's proposed natural gas rate increase in Burnet could lead to residential bills rising from $25 to $35, commercial from $140 to $179, and industrial from $2,100 to $2,758. The Burnet City Council voted on March 24 to delay the increase, initially set for April 21, by 45 days for review of the proposal filed under the Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program on February 20.
Under Texas law, cities can suspend utility rate changes for a limited period. Burnet has reaffirmed its membership in the Atmos Texas Municipalities to collectively address such issues. Similar disputes occurred in the past year in Burnet and Marble Falls, indicating ongoing tensions between local governments and Atmos Energy.
