Busan Secures National Grants for Power Semiconductor Initiatives
Busan has been awarded two national grants aimed at bolstering its position in the power semiconductor sector. The city is set to invest 28.6 billion won ($21 million) to enhance both production and analysis infrastructures over the next four years.

Busan has secured two national grants from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) to advance its power semiconductor industry. Each project, led by Busan Techno Park and the Pusan National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, is valued at up to 10 billion won ($7.3 million), with initial funding of 2 billion won in the first year.
The city plans to invest a total of 28.6 billion won ($21 million), including 20 billion won in state funds, to enhance its 8-inch compound semiconductor process infrastructure. The projects aim to develop a reliable power semiconductor manufacturing base and an integrated analysis platform, focusing on silicon carbide (SiC) technology. The industry is critical for electric vehicles and renewable energy sectors, indicating a strategic push for global competitiveness.
