Byron Nuclear Plant Completes First Phase of $800M Upgrade Project
The Constellation nuclear energy plant in Byron, Illinois, has completed the first phase of an $800 million upgrade, involving the replacement of three major turbines. This enhancement is projected to increase the plant's power capacity by approximately 158 MW, sufficient to supply power to an additional 100,000 homes in the region.

The upgrade project at the Constellation nuclear energy plant in Byron, Illinois, aims to enhance power generation capabilities, with completion expected in three years. The first phase involved replacing three turbines and was finalized despite a recent chemical leak incident that injured eight workers, which did not affect the project's timeline.
Approximately 1,500 temporary workers were employed during the outage for the turbine replacement. The completed upgrades will support rising electricity demand and improve the plant's efficiency, addressing future challenges in power consumption. Phase two is scheduled to commence in October.
