Cabinet Approves ₹40,175 Crore for Arunachal Pradesh Hydropower Projects
The Indian Cabinet has sanctioned ₹40,175 crore for two hydropower initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh, enhancing renewable energy capacity. These projects aim to bolster regional infrastructure and improve power supply, critical for peak demand management and flood moderation.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved investments of ₹40,175.33 crore for the Kamala Hydro Electric Project (1,720 MW) and the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project (1,200 MW) in Arunachal Pradesh. The Kamala project in Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey districts has a completion timeframe of 96 months, generating 6,870 million units annually, while the Kalai-II project in Anjaw district is expected to complete in 78 months with an output of 4,853 million units.
Each project will allocate 12% of generated power to the state and provide 1% for Local Area Development Funds. Infrastructure developments include 196 km of roads for Kamala and 29 km for Kalai-II, aimed at supporting local communities. Both projects are projected to drive socio-economic advancement and enhance energy security in the region, amid ongoing hydropower initiatives.
