Calm returned to Rivers State as residents resumed normal activities following an impeachment threat against Governor Siminalyi Fubara, triggered by an investigation into his failure to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill. The National Security Adviser and Chief of Army Staff increased security presence amid widespread condemnation from civil society organizations, which argued that the impeachment move undermines democratic principles and should not be used as a political tool.

Rivers State experienced calm on Friday as residents resumed normal activities following an impeachment threat against Governor Siminalyi Fubara. Tensions rose on Thursday due to the House of Assembly's investigation into the governor's alleged failure to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The National Security Adviser and the Chief of Army Staff visited to enhance security presence. Routine police checkpoints were present, and businesses operated normally. Civil society organizations, including the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights and the Civil Liberties Organisation, condemned the impeachment move, arguing it undermines democratic principles and violates constitutional processes. They emphasized that impeachment should not be used as a political tool and urged restraint among political leaders to maintain governance and stability in the state.
