CAM Drafts Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 2025 for India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
CAM has completed the drafting of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 2025 following the Oilfield (Regulation and Development) Amendment Act, 2025. The Amendment Act mandates obtaining a petroleum lease for operations and grants the Ministry authority to create rules on various aspects including tenure, dispute resolution, and safety at oilfields.

CAM has drafted the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 2025 in accordance with the Oilfield (Regulation and Development) Amendment Act, 2025. This Amendment Act requires a petroleum lease for conducting petroleum operations and allows the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to create rules regarding tenure, dispute resolution, mineral oil data treatment, facility sharing, safety mechanisms at oilfields, unitisation and stabilisation of leases, sustainability practices, and comprehensive energy projects. The drafting process incorporated feedback from industry stakeholders.
