Canada House in Gillingham Remains Vacant Despite Redevelopment Plans for 21 Flats
Canada House in Gillingham, a former Royal Navy hospital, has remained vacant and deteriorating since its sale in 2020 for £1.5 million, despite receiving planning permission for redevelopment into 21 flats in 2022. The developer, Risbridger Scott & Sons Ltd, has halted work, leading to safety concerns among local residents due to trespassing and the building's poor condition. Efforts by local authorities to contact the developer have gone unanswered, and the property was withdrawn from a planned auction in November 2025.

Canada House in Gillingham, originally a Royal Navy hospital, was sold in 2020 for £1.5 million with plans to convert it into 21 flats. Despite planning permission granted in 2022 for the redevelopment, the site has remained vacant and in disrepair, attracting trespassers and raising safety concerns among local residents.
The building has been empty for half a decade, with reports of broken windows and unauthorized access. The developer, Risbridger Scott & Sons Ltd, purchased the property for £1,502,000 but halted work on the project.
Local authorities have attempted to reach the developer regarding the building's condition but have not received a response. In November 2025, Canada House was listed for auction as a redevelopment opportunity but was withdrawn before the auction.
