Canada Invests $225 Million to Enhance Sovereign Space Launch Capabilities with Maritime Launch Services
The Canadian government has allocated nearly $225 million to develop domestic rocket launch capabilities, including a $200 million lease for a space launch pad at Maritime Launch Services' spaceport in Canso, Nova Scotia. This funding is part of Canada's $6.6 billion Defence Industrial Strategy and aims to support military and commercial space launch efforts. Three companies—Canada Rocket Company, NordSpace, and Reaction Dynamics—are also receiving grants to advance their rocket technologies.

The Canadian government has committed nearly $225 million to enhance its space launch capabilities, including a $200 million lease for a dedicated launch pad at Maritime Launch Services' spaceport in Canso, Nova Scotia. This initiative is part of Canada’s $6.6 billion Defence Industrial Strategy and aims to support defense requirements as well as commercial launches.
Defence Minister David McGuinty announced the funding, which includes nearly $25 million for three companies: Canada Rocket Company, NordSpace, and Reaction Dynamics, each receiving $8.3 million to develop launch technologies. The DND will pay $20 million annually over ten years for the space launch pad, expected to be operational by 2026. Canada has also joined NATO's Starlift initiative to enhance collaborative space launch capabilities.
