Canada Proposes Increased Natural Gas Exports to US for Gulf Coast LNG Support
Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson discussed boosting natural gas flows to the US to enhance LNG exports from the Gulf Coast. Currently, Canada supplies 8 billion cubic feet per day of gas, supporting 20 billion cubic feet per day of US LNG exports. The discussions took place at CERAWeek in Houston, focusing on meeting power demands from AI data centers. Hodgson also addressed maintaining oil supply amid global conflicts and ongoing negotiations with Alberta for a new oil pipeline.

Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson is advocating for increased natural gas exports to the US to support LNG exports from the Gulf Coast and power demands from AI data centers. At the CERAWeek conference, he noted Canada currently exports 8 billion cubic feet per day of gas, which underpins 20 billion cubic feet per day of US LNG exports.
Amid global energy market tensions, Canada is committed to maintaining oil supply, having pledged 23.6 million barrels to the IEA's emergency release. The Canadian government has asked oil sands producers to delay maintenance to sustain output. Hodgson is also negotiating a deal with Alberta for federal support of a new oil pipeline in exchange for commitments on carbon pricing.
