Cape Town's Coastal Park Landfill gas-to-energy plant, commissioned in November 2025 at R93 million, produces 1.3 million kWh monthly, supplying 1.2 million kWh to the grid, enough for over 4,000 households. The facility utilizes perforated pipes to extract methane from waste.

The plant has generated R36 million in carbon credits from January 2018 to December 2020, with an R82 million expansion planned. A new landfill gas-to-energy plant at Vissershok is in design, projected to be operational by mid-2029. The city aims to continue generating revenue from carbon credits as demand increases, positioning Coastal Park as a model for future projects.
