Capital Intelligence Affirms Qatar's Credit Ratings at 'AA' with Stable Outlook
Capital Intelligence Ratings has affirmed Qatar's Long-Term Foreign Currency Rating and Long-Term Local Currency Rating at 'AA', with Short-Term ratings remaining at 'A1+'. The outlook is stable. The ratings reflect Qatar's strong external and public finances, supported by favorable LNG prices and a substantial portfolio of foreign assets held by the Qatar Investment Authority.
Qatar's current account surplus is estimated at 13.1% of GDP in 2025 and projected to average 11.1% in 2026-27. Official foreign exchange reserves are high at $72.3 billion, covering 2.5 times short-term external debt.
Real GDP growth was 2.9% in 2025, with nominal GDP per capita around $71,000. The growth outlook remains favorable, with an average real growth of 6.9% expected in 2026-27, driven by increased LNG production and strong services sector performance.
