The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has invited comments on an Air Quality Plan Approval for the uprate of three natural gas-fired turbines at Hummel Station Power Plant in Shamokin Dam. PJM Interconnection approved a 32.4 MW capacity uprate for the plant, to be completed by 2027 as part of its Reliability Resource Initiative.
In July, Capital Power acquired the 1,124 MW facility and announced a $3 billion investment plan, aiming to establish partnerships to supply power to A.I. data center companies. No public hearing is scheduled regarding the proposed Plan Approval, although one may be requested.
