Carlyle and KKR to Construct Two $2 Billion Data Centres for US Army in Texas and Utah
The US Army has selected Carlyle and KKR to build two data centres at military bases in Texas and Utah, each costing $2 billion. These centres are part of a strategy to enhance AI capabilities amid increased demands during the war in Iran. Carlyle will develop a 2.5-3 GW centre at Fort Bliss, Texas, operational by 2028, while KKR will construct a 1 GW centre at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, expected to be operational in 2029. The Army will receive a portion of the computing capacity while excess will be sold commercially.

The US Army has chosen Carlyle and KKR to build two data centres at military bases in Texas and Utah, each estimated at $2 billion, to address the rising demand for AI capabilities. Carlyle will construct a 2.5-3 GW centre on 1,384 acres at Fort Bliss in Texas, starting operations at 200 MW in 2027, with full capacity expected in 2028.
KKR will build a 1 GW centre on 1,201 acres at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, to be operational in 2029. The Army will receive a percentage of the centres' capacity, with excess sold to commercial clients. Negotiations for final agreements are ongoing, and the Army anticipates more similar projects in the future.
