CB&I Achieves Milestone in Non-Vacuum LH2 Storage Technology
CB&I has completed the first fill of a non-vacuum insulated liquid hydrogen storage tank at NASA's facility. This advancement is crucial for reducing costs and scaling LH2 storage solutions.

CB&I successfully filled its non-vacuum insulated liquid hydrogen (LH2) demonstration tank at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, marking a key milestone in LH2 storage technology. This 20 m tank enhances the Hydrogen Test Facility's storage capacity, allowing for daily refills and expanded testing capabilities.
The project, initiated in 2025, involves collaboration with Shell, NASA, GenH2, and the University of Houston to develop cost-effective LH2 storage solutions. Over the next months, performance evaluations will provide essential data for the commercialization of large-scale LH2 technologies, potentially influencing the hydrogen economy's future.
