The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) raised concerns about the draft Energy and Power Sector Master Plan (2026-2050) presented by Bangladesh's interim government, questioning its preparation without consultation. CPD projects electricity demand at 30,000 MW by 2050, while the draft estimates 60,000 MW.
The proposed investment for LNG infrastructure surged from $3.9 billion to $27 billion. CPD criticized the lack of emphasis on renewable energy and urged the interim government not to finalize the draft before upcoming elections on February 12. They recommended that the newly elected government involve an independent panel in the draft's preparation.
