The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) inaugurated a 269-megawatt combined cycle power plant in San Pedro Escobedo, Querétaro, to address the growing energy demands of the Bajío region. Named after independence hero Josefa Ortiz Téllez Girón, this facility is the first CFE plant to honor a woman.

CFE Director General Emilia Calleja Alor stated that the natural gas-powered plant will supply energy to over 4 million people and incorporates sustainable technology. The new plant, previously called 'El Sauz II,' increases Querétaro's generation capacity to 1,677 MW, following recent expansions in Salamanca and Villa de Reyes.

A second Salamanca plant with 483 MW capacity is planned. The Bajío region's industrial growth, including significant data center projects, is expected to further increase electricity demand. The administration aims to add nearly 29,000 MW of capacity, requiring an investment of US $45 billion.
