CH-53K King Stallion Helicopter Achieves Major Recovery Capability Milestone
The CH-53K helicopter successfully lifted another CH-53K model, marking progress in operational capabilities for the fleet. This evaluation is crucial for developing standardized recovery procedures for downed aircraft.

The CH-53K King Stallion helicopter has successfully performed a significant milestone by lifting another CH-53K during a test conducted by Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 21 (HX-21). This test aimed to validate specialized rigging and procedures necessary for recovering a downed CH-53K, which is not yet standardized in U.S.
Navy salvage manuals. The lifted Engineering Development Model (EDM) weighed approximately 28,000 lbs, well within the CH-53K's external lift capacity of 36,000 lbs. The evaluation's findings will directly contribute to updates in the Aircraft Salvage Operations manual, ensuring the Marine Corps can safely conduct Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) missions in the future. This advance reflects the ongoing efforts of PMA-261 in enhancing the operational capabilities of the H-53 fleet.
