Acting Changwon Mayor Jang Geum-yong has announced that 2026 will mark a significant year for urban reform and AI transformation in the city. With KRW 1.7467 trillion in new investments and record defense exports, Changwon plans to focus on developing a national defense-nuclear convergence industrial complex, transforming into a smart city, and enhancing transportation networks, while also strengthening welfare programs and expanding waterfront spaces.

Acting Changwon Mayor Jang Geum-yong declared 2026 as the year for completing urban reform and creating tangible results for citizens. The city attracted KRW 1.7467 trillion in new investment and achieved record defense exports, showcasing its industrial strength.
The selection of three GB (Development Restriction Zone) Strategic Projects is seen as a pivotal move to secure land for future growth. The administration's focus will be on three key areas: 1) Developing a national defense-nuclear convergence industrial complex and a global logistics and industrial belt; 2) Transforming Changwon into a smart city integrating AI, healthcare, and biotechnology; 3) Building a metropolitan transportation network and establishing an N-Minute City Living Zone to enhance residents' access to services. The city also aims to strengthen welfare programs and maintain economic momentum through initiatives like expanding waterfront spaces.
