Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Jinbuk Industrial Complex Demand Revisions to Local Balanced Development Act

DEFENSE

On December 28, representatives from the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Masan Economic Revitalization Promotion Committee, Changwon City, and 17 companies from the Jinbuk Industrial Complex Tenant Association held a meeting to call for revisions to the Local Balanced Development Act and the designation of Population Decline Areas. The current law excludes areas like Masan Happo District from receiving necessary support despite significant population decline, leading to reverse discrimination for businesses in the Jinbuk Industrial Complex.

These companies lack access to government tax benefits, subsidies, and hiring incentives available to metropolitan areas. The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Changwon City plan to leverage these appeals to persuade the central government.

The Jinbuk Industrial Complex is vital for Changwon's defense and nuclear sectors but faces challenges from an aging population and workforce loss. Officials stress the need for legislative changes to aid revitalization efforts.
