Chhattisgarh Police Recover Record 677 Weapons from Maoists in 2025, Many Linked to Past Attacks
Chhattisgarh police reported the recovery of 677 weapons from Maoist cadres in 2025, the highest annual total to date. This increase followed years of declining weapon recoveries, with figures falling to 35 in 2023 before rising to 286 in 2024.
The recovered weapons included 42 AK-47 rifles, three light machine guns, and various other firearms. Many of these weapons were traced to attacks over the past two decades, with 516 automatic weapons looted from security forces in the Bastar division from 2001 to 2024.
Intelligence-led operations and government rehabilitation policies contributed to the surge in recoveries. Despite this setback for the Maoists, approximately 350 armed cadres are still active in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand, although their operational capabilities have diminished.
