Child Development Center for Special Forces Families in Florida Delayed
Plans for a child development center at Camp 'Bull' Simons, Florida, have been postponed to FY26, impacting local military families. The ongoing shortage of child care options has forced families to travel long distances for services, raising concerns among lawmakers and military officials.

The establishment of a child development center (CDC) at Camp 'Bull' Simons has been delayed to fiscal year 2026, despite previous announcements for FY25. Families connected to the 7th Special Forces Group and other military units in northwest Florida face significant child care shortages, with some commuting over an hour to access available services.
The Air Force is nearing an agreement on the CDC's location while considering safety risks due to proximity to an active bombing range. Interim measures include increasing capacity in local family-run day cares and renovating a facility in Crestview.
However, military families emphasize the importance of having secure child care on base. Discussions continue on how to provide suitable options for those affected.
