Chile Aims for Regional Defense Industry Leadership by 2030
Chile's government plans to revitalize three state-owned defense firms by 2030 to enhance its regional defense industry presence. This initiative aims to integrate military production with civilian technology development to stimulate economic growth and job creation.

Chile's government has outlined an action plan for 2026-2027 focused on reinforcing state-owned defense companies. The strategy emphasizes three firms: Famae, Asmar, and Enaer, which support the army, navy, and air force respectively.
The government aims to modernize these entities to create an integrated defense industry with international competitiveness. A partnership model, termed the 'triple helix,' seeks to combine state, private sector, and academic resources to foster dual-use technologies.
A significant milestone is set for June 18, with the launch of the multipurpose vessel Magallanes at Asmar's Talcahuano plant. Achieving these goals will depend on sustained investment and overcoming historical governance challenges.
