China Advances Ultra-Pure Helium Production Amid Global Supply Constraints
China has launched its first ultra-pure helium production facility, achieving 99.99997% purity. This development aims to reduce dependence on imported helium amidst tight global supplies and volatile pricing.

China has established its first facility for producing ultra-pure helium from low-abundance natural gas in Yan'an, Shaanxi province, with an annual output of approximately 400,000 cubic meters at 99.99997% purity. The facility, developed by Vacree Technologies, employs advanced cryogenic purification and neon-removal technologies to efficiently separate helium from hydrogen and neon.
This milestone is crucial, given the increasing reliance of Chinese industries on helium for applications in semiconductors and aerospace, particularly as global supply remains constrained and prices have surged. The U.S.
Federal Helium System's privatization has shifted production dynamics, while other key suppliers like Qatar and Russia continue to dominate the market. China's self-sufficiency efforts are poised to enhance supply chain resilience and mitigate foreign dependency.
