China and ASEAN Enhance Green Economic Collaboration for Global Climate Governance
The partnership between China and ASEAN is crucial for sustainable development, demonstrating a successful model for global climate governance. Recent investments and trade data highlight the significant impact of this collaboration on both regional economies and climate initiatives.

China's collaboration with ASEAN in the green economy has led to a cumulative $5.2 billion in energy-related greenfield projects from 2019 to 2023. Bilateral trade reached 6.82 trillion yuan ($1 trillion) in the first 11 months of 2025, driven by electric vehicle exports.
The Plan of Action for 2026-30 outlines initiatives to strengthen green industrialization and mobilize green investment, reflecting mutual benefits without political conditions. Major projects like the Lower Sesan II hydropower station in Cambodia provide electricity to 2.6 million people and include a training program for local engineers. This partnership is positioned as a scalable model for Global South collaboration, contributing to regional emission reductions and sustainable development initiatives.
