China Develops 116GW Green Hydrogen Pipeline, Majority Pre-FID
China is advancing 116GW of green hydrogen projects, yet 84% remain pre-final investment decision (FID). Despite over 2.3GW of operational electrolyser capacity, nearly 20GW of projects are categorized as stranded or suspended, indicating challenges in market development.

China has an active green hydrogen project pipeline totaling 116GW, with 84% not yet reaching the final investment decision (FID). The country currently operates over 2.3GW of electrolyser capacity, which has doubled from the previous year.
However, nearly 20GW of projects are stalled due to inactivity. Political support for green hydrogen has been emphasized in China's 15th Five Year Plan, leading to 16GW of new announcements in Q1 2026.
Despite this, industry experts argue that achieving competitive pricing with fossil fuels remains a challenge. The market's current state resembles the photovoltaic sector 15 years ago, indicating potential for future growth as technology matures.
