China Develops First Robot Astronaut PM01 for Space Exploration
China is preparing to launch PM01, its first humanoid robot astronaut, developed by Engine AI in Shenzhen. This robot is designed for space exploration, adapting to challenges like microgravity and radiation.
PM01 features advanced mobility, environmental perception, and decision-making autonomy. In collaboration with Interstellor, the project aims to ensure reliability for missions that would be perilous for humans.
The Humanoid Robot Astronaut Exploration Program seeks to test operational capabilities, including maintenance on space stations. PM01 could work longer in extreme conditions, reducing risks to human astronauts.
Standing 1.38 meters tall and weighing around 40 kilograms, it integrates advanced visual sensors and computing architecture. Interstellor plans suborbital flights by 2028 and more complex orbital missions in the 2030s.
