China's Communist Party is investigating senior military officials Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli for serious violations of discipline and law, as confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense. This move is part of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign that has targeted the military since 2012 and reflects a broader leadership upheaval within the People's Liberation Army, particularly among allies of President Xi Jinping.

China's Communist Party has initiated an investigation into senior military officials Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli for serious violations of discipline and law, as confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense. Zhang, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and a member of the Political Bureau, alongside Liu, Chief of Staff of the CMC's Joint Staff Department, are both linked to President Xi Jinping.
The investigation reflects the ongoing anti-corruption campaign that has targeted the military since 2012. Recent purges have included the expulsion of eight top generals on graft charges, including He Weidong, and have reportedly slowed advanced weapon procurement. The investigations into Zhang and Liu, both trusted allies of Xi, underscore the depth of the leadership upheaval within the People's Liberation Army amid efforts to reinforce loyalty and eliminate corruption.
