China Launches Largest Domestically Built LNG Carrier 'Celsius Georgetown'
China has completed the construction of its largest LNG carrier, enhancing domestic shipbuilding capabilities. This development marks a significant milestone for Chinese shipyards, now totaling five that can produce such vessels.

On April 8, 2026, China Merchants Industry Haimen Base delivered the 'Celsius Georgetown,' a 180,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier, in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. The ship measures 298.8 meters in length and 48 meters in width, making it the largest LNG carrier built in China to date.
This vessel is part of a contract involving a total of eight ships (4+2+2) for Celsius Shipping, a Danish company. The expansion of shipbuilding capabilities in China could enhance its competitiveness in the global LNG transport market, but it may also intensify competition among existing operators.
