China Launches Space Energy Development Alliance in Solar Sector
China's solar manufacturing sector established the Space Energy Development Alliance to explore space solar energy amid domestic oversupply. The initiative aims to tap into new markets following increased demand for renewable energy solutions due to global supply chain disruptions.

On Tuesday, the Space Energy Development Alliance was launched at the SNEC PV+ conference in Shanghai, aiming to expand China's solar capabilities into space. The initiative comes as China's solar exports rise amid a global push for renewable energy, particularly following disruptions in oil and gas supplies.
Chinese solar manufacturers are pursuing potential markets beyond their saturated domestic landscape, although specifics on projects remain vague. By 2030, China intends to conduct low-Earth-orbit technology verification tests, with ambitions for a commercial gigawatt-scale space solar power station by 2050.
Recent advancements in wireless power transmission by Chinese scientists may further facilitate this goal. The competition with the U.S. in space solar technology underscores the urgency of these developments.
