China Operationalizes PL-16 Missile on J-35 Fighter Amid Pakistan Acquisition Interest
China's People's Liberation Army Air Force has operationalized the PL-16 long-range air-to-air missile on the J-35 stealth fighter. The PL-16 offers enhanced engagement range of 220-300 kilometers, surpassing the PL-15.
Pakistan is interested in acquiring the J-35 and PL-16 to improve its aerial capabilities and counter regional threats. The J-35 can carry six PL-16 missiles internally, optimizing stealth operations. Pakistan has been in discussions for up to 40 J-35 units, with pilot training preparations underway.
Concurrently, Pakistan is enhancing its air defence along the Makran coast, deploying a multi-tiered radar network to monitor aerial threats. This includes advanced radar systems from both American and Chinese sources, capable of detection up to 1,000 kilometers. The strategic developments aim to bolster Pakistan's military posture amid ongoing tensions with regionally adversarial nations.
