China State Shipbuilding Corporation Partners with Carnival for Mega Cruise Ships
China State Shipbuilding Corporation has partnered with Carnival to develop mega cruise ships, marking a significant move in the cruise industry, which has traditionally relied on European shipyards for construction. Meanwhile, South Korea's Samsung is advancing its own initiative for cleaner, LNG-powered vessels. The shipbuilding process involves various stages, including steel cutting and hull assembly, with some components manufactured off-site.

In October 2024, China State Shipbuilding Corporation announced a partnership with Carnival to build mega cruise ships, while Samsung in South Korea initiated a project for cleaner, LNG-powered cruise ships. Most cruise ships are built in European shipyards due to required technology and workforce.
The construction process begins with cutting steel parts, followed by laying the keel and finishing the hull. Some ship components are constructed off-site and installed later. Currently, Europe leads in cruise ship construction.
