China's CNS Silk Road Ark Hospital Ship Visits Brazil During Western Hemisphere Deployment
The Chinese naval hospital ship CNS Silk Road Ark arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 8 for a seven-day visit, marking its first port call in South America. The vessel is part of China's Harmony mission series, which has been deployed since 2010 across various regions.
Following its arrival, the ship hosted open-day events to showcase medical equipment and planned joint maritime exercises with the Brazilian Navy. The Silk Road Ark has previously visited Nicaragua, Jamaica, and Barbados as part of its Latin American mission, which began in November.
It is scheduled to make three more stops in Chile, Mexico, and Peru before heading to Papua New Guinea. The Chinese Defense Ministry aims to enhance military exchanges and cooperation with Latin American countries through this deployment.
