China's Investment Surge in Humanoid Robots to Compete with the U.S.
In 2026, China's humanoid robotics sector received 100 billion yuan (approximately $14.8 billion), surpassing the total of the previous five years. The Ministry of Industry aims to deploy 10,000 humanoid robots in factories by year-end, positioning robotics as a solution to China's demographic crisis and a key element in technological competition with the U.S.

China's humanoid robotics sector has attracted 100 billion yuan (about $14.8 billion) in 2026, exceeding investments from the last five years combined. The Ministry of Industry and Technology aims to deploy 10,000 humanoid robots in factories by the end of the year, while 300,000 industrial robots were installed in 2024, compared to 38,000 in the U.S.
Analysts estimate that humanoid robots could address 60% of the projected worker deficit, addressing both technological and social challenges. Chinese companies are focusing on 'embodied intelligence' to enhance robot capabilities.
As of now, the leading firms have collected about 500,000 hours of training data, but tens of millions are needed. Local authorities have established 64 data collection centers nationwide, with more under construction, enhancing real-world data acquisition for robots. Morgan Stanley projects the humanoid robot market could reach $5 trillion annually by 2050, with data scale as a critical competitive factor.
