China's PLARF Advances Hypersonic Weapons for Decapitation Strikes
The People's Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF) is focusing on hypersonic weaponry, defined as traveling above Mach 5, for future combat advantages. PLARF researchers emphasize the precision, defense penetration, and data transmission capabilities of hypersonic weapons (HWs).
Decapitation operations targeting military and political leaders are identified as key applications. HWs' maneuverability allows evasion of enemy missile defenses. The potential for remote-controlled HWs to transmit reconnaissance data in real time is highlighted.
The PLA plans to invest in HW R&D to maintain strategic superiority over the US and Russia. The 2024 PLA budget is set at 2.4 trillion RMB, with over 300 billion RMB allocated for R&D. Concerns are raised about the global arms race and the need for communication channels to avoid conflict escalation.
