Chinese Aircraft Carrier CNS Shandong Docked in New Dry Dock for Repairs at Yulin Naval Base

DEFENSE

Satellite imagery indicates that China has docked its aircraft carrier CNS Shandong in a new dry dock at Yulin Naval Base for repairs, marking the facility's first use for such maintenance. This move supports China's expanding navy, which now comprises over 370 ships and submarines, including three aircraft carriers.

The Shandong's docking at Yulin, alongside the still-operational CNS Fujian, suggests the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) is enhancing its logistics and reducing reliance on Dalian for carrier maintenance. The new dry dock, built between 2017 and 2022, measures 375 meters long and 78 meters wide. This docking occurs as the USS Abraham Lincoln departs the Western Pacific, highlighting ongoing military dynamics in the region.
