Chirag Nagar Residents' Consent Required for Relocation Amid Development Plans
Chirag Nagar residents will only be relocated with their consent as part of development plans for a memorial and research institute honoring Anna Bhau Sathe. While nearly 90% of families reportedly support relocation, many are hesitant to voice their approval due to concerns over housing size, private land development, and the limited eligibility for new homes. The plan also aims to preserve Sathe's house and create a landscaped memorial.

The relocation of Chirag Nagar residents will proceed only with their consent, as per SRA officials. The plan includes relocating residents for two major projects: a memorial for Anna Bhau Sathe and the Sahitya Ratna Anna Bhau Sathe Research and Training Institute.
High-rise development is not feasible due to the area's proximity to a Navy depot and its location within the funnel zone of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The plan aims to preserve Sathe's house and create a landscaped memorial.
Residents oppose relocation despite offers of permanent rehabilitation homes, with eligibility limited to ground floor occupants. Concerns about the size of new homes and fears of land being developed privately have fueled resistance. SRA officials report that nearly 90% of families are willing to relocate but are reluctant to express this publicly.
