CHN Energy Launches 1GW Floating Solar Project in China with Innovative Design

SOLAR ENERGY

CHN Energy has commenced full operations at its 1GW floating solar project in Dongying, China, utilizing 710W n-type bifacial modules. The project features a unique 'four-pile foundation and photovoltaic platform optimized structure' with a tilt angle adjusted to 15 degrees, enhancing durability against level 11 winds and winter ice, while reducing steel usage by over 10%.

This design aims to mitigate financial losses from extreme weather, particularly hail, which accounts for a significant portion of losses in solar projects. The project began connecting to the local grid in November 2024 and is integrated with fishing activities to minimize disruption. This development aligns with the increasing interest in floating photovoltaic (FPV) projects in coastal Asia, highlighted by the Philippines' recent awarding of 2.28GW in new FPV capacity.
