CIPCO Pursues Alternative Route for Natural Gas Plant in Scott County
CIPCO has initiated an alternative approach to establish a natural gas peaking power plant in Scott County, following a zoning amendment rejection. The Iowa Utilities Commission will review public comments before making a decision on the project.

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is seeking a certificate from the Iowa Utilities Commission to construct a natural gas power facility in Hickory Grove township, near Maysville. An informational meeting was conducted at Rhythm City Casino, attracting over 100 attendees who voiced opinions for and against the project.
Critics express concerns regarding the location, arguing that agricultural land is unsuitable for industrial use, while proponents emphasize the need for reliable power to support local agriculture and businesses. The commission will evaluate all public feedback before rendering a decision, highlighting the ongoing debate between land use and energy requirements in the region.
