City Utilities of Springfield Begins Infrastructure Work on Mt. Vernon Street with Traffic Changes
City Utilities of Springfield will start replacing natural gas and water infrastructure on Mt. Vernon Street on January 7, leading to temporary traffic changes. The project will affect traffic control between Park Avenue and Kansas Expressway, with the first phase lasting approximately 90 days.
During work hours, Mt. Vernon Street will have one-way traffic, closing westbound lanes between Warren Avenue and LaFontaine Avenue, while eastbound traffic remains open. Each night, the street will revert to two-way traffic when construction is not occurring. City Utilities advises drivers to follow detours, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes to minimize congestion.
