Civilian Flights to Begin from Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir within 7 Months
Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that civilian flights will start within the next seven months from an interim terminal at the Air Force station in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. A proposal for acquiring additional land is underway to develop a full-fledged airport with support from the Chief Minister's government.
The operation of flights is expected to be realized through coordination between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Singh highlighted the importance of enhanced air connectivity for socio-economic growth in the Chenab region, which will benefit four districts.
He also noted similar initiatives under the UDAAN scheme in Kishtwar. Udhampur is positioned as a connectivity hub with improved air, rail, and road links, including the development of the Udhampur railway station.
