Cleco to Construct 756-MW Gas Plant for Data Center in Louisiana
Cleco plans a 756-MW natural gas power plant to support Applied Digital’s $3.6 billion data center in Rapides Parish. This project is expected to significantly reduce costs for existing Cleco customers while enhancing regional economic development.

Cleco is set to build a 756-megawatt natural gas power plant alongside a $3.6 billion data center operated by Applied Digital in Rapides Parish. The data center will require up to 430 megawatts of electricity, marking it as Cleco's largest single load.
Applied Digital will finance the necessary infrastructure, including new substations and transmission line upgrades, as well as a 10-year agreement for 370 megawatts from Texas's Tenaska Frontier Generating Station. The new gas plant will benefit all Cleco customers, with projections indicating over $700 million in net benefits to existing customers over 15 years due to reduced costs. The construction phase is expected to create around 1,000 jobs, and the center will support additional permanent positions in the area, enhancing economic activity in Central Louisiana.
