CNPPID Board Approves Bridge Replacement Agreement with Gosper County
The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District's board approved an interlocal agreement with Gosper County for replacing the Johnson Lake inlet bridge, set to start after its closure in November 2025. This partnership aims to enhance safety and operational efficiency while saving $5 million in future maintenance costs.

The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District (CNPPID) board approved an agreement to replace the Johnson Lake inlet bridge, which has been closed since November 2025 for safety concerns. CNPPID will assume ownership and replace the bridge at an estimated cost of $3 million, with Gosper County contributing $300,000 for removal costs.
In exchange, two of CNPPID's timber bridges will be closed and removed, yielding $5 million in savings. Additionally, the board approved a $5 million WaterSmart grant application for canal automation and initiated a search for a new General Manager.
Other approvals included feasibility studies for residential developments and purchases of machinery totaling over $490,000. This collaboration is expected to streamline operations and enhance infrastructure safety.
